Sanctuary west mural: The Martyrdom of St. Adalbert
St. Wojtech, or St.
Adalbert, was a Bohemian (Czech) monk who set out on a mission to
Christianize the Prussians (Germans) living on the Baltic coast
east of the Vistula River. He met his death at the hands of the
Prussians in 997 AD and was canonized two years later. The oldest
church in Cracow, Poland, is St. Adalbert's Church, situated on the
southeast corner of the town square.
