"The system of Canon Tables is a concordance device invented to indicate which passages are shared in which Gospels. It shows, for example, whether and where a particular passage in Matthew's Gospel also appears in Mark, Luke and John. The presentation of the Canon Tables recalls the chancel arch of a church.
