Mission was the name given to a type of simple
Turn-of-the-century oak furniture supposedly inspired by furnishings from the Californian missions of Spanish Colonial times, though such originals no longer exist. Mission-style easy chairs - called Morris chairs if adjustable, after the famous chair by the English designer William Morris - are usually simple rectangular designs.
Mass-produced Mission-style chairs, generally with applied decoration or carving, are more available than simple classics.
