Chuck Tingley’s Flutterby Mural is Complete
By Queenseyes
Buffalo Rising, August 18, 2019 (online August 2019)
The first large scale wall mural from the inaugural Flutterby Festival is now complete. Street artist Chuck Tingley wrapped up the piece over the weekend. The mural, located at 257 1/2 Summer Street, took about two weeks to complete, due to Tingley’s high demand – he was called away to paint another mural mid way through the project, which extended the timespan of the creation.
According to the artist, he wanted the eyes to be closed for a couple of reasons. First, the eyes can represent anyone, no matter ethnic background, and second, he wanted to make a statement that so many people are simply closing their eyes when it comes to environmental issues.
As final touches, Tingley added some fauna to the flora, as a shout out to The Flutterby Festival, which was held last Saturday. The festival generated four murals, pollinator gardens, a Lorax sculpture, and a number of other earth friendly reminders that we must all become better stewards of this planet.
This particular mural was sponsored by Skyworks, Schuele Paint Company and Hyatt’s – All Things Creative.
