Wilkeson Pointe Park
Fuhrmann Blvd., Industrial Heritage
Trail, Outer Harbor, Buffalo, NY
On this page, below:
The park was
created in 2013. The name Wilkeson Pointe was the result of a naming contest won by City Honors School students. See: New Outer Harbor Park, Wilkeson Pointe, Now Open, June 13, 2013, Buffalo Rising (online July 2014). Adjoins Times Beach Nature Preserve. Both Wilkeson Pointe park and the Times Beach Nature Preserve are part of the Industrial Heritage Trail along Fuhrmann Blvd. on the Outer Harbor. The Outer Harbor faces Lake Erie, as opposed to the Inner Harbor which faces the Buffalo River. In order to make Wilkeson Pointe Park possible, the ice boom storage area was moved from the beach to 41 Hamburg Street, along the Buffalo River. See: New Ice Boom Home Provides New Opportunities for Progress on Buffalo River and Outer Harbor. Mar 28, 2013 Congressman Brian Higgins Press Release (online July 2014) |

After lots of deliberation, we discovered that they are actually from the original M&T Bank building once at the corner of Main and Swan Streets (later the Federal Reserve Building). If you go to those photos, you can actually see some of the exact detailing found at Wilkeson Pointe, including the huge white fluted columns (which are not on the Cathedral), the dentil work, etc." - Dean W.
