Doris Ann (age 43) and her mother, Ora Lee (age 63) were killed in an automobile accident on the Thruway in the Town of Portland, Chautauqua County.


Ora Lee Lewis was born in Nitta Yuma, Mississippi. The former Ora Lee Pendleton married the later Hezekiah Lewis, Sr. on 9/21/1952 and they moved to Buffalo a few years later. Ora Lee joined Zion Missionary Baptist Church and became a faithful member of the choir, Missionary Society and Sunday school department. The Women Ministries Christian Association awarded her evangelist certification in 1982.


Doris Ann Lewis was born in Buffalo, graduated from East High School and Bryant and Stratton Business Institute. After working 13 years for the Board of Education, Doris became an officer with the Buffalo Police Department serving in the Genesee Station. She received many awards for her on-the-job performance and served as a liaison for the Weed and Seed Program. She also organized several block clubs and a mentoring program for youth called "Walk in My Shoes."

Officer Lewis was baptized into the Zion Missionary Baptist Church at a young age. She also was an active church member and was a member of the sanctuary choir, Nurse's Guild and Women Helping Women Ministry. She also served as a supervisor for the youth choir.
