The window over the High Altar consists of three panels:
Left: The window depicts Peter,
Andrew's brother, whom Andrew brought to Jesus, as told in John 1:35-42.
Peter is holding an Upside-down Cross, which tradition tells us is the form of the
cross on which he was crucified, also because he did not wish to be crucified on
the same kind of cross as Jesus.
Below are two keys, in an X-shape, representing Jesus' charge in Matthew 16:15-19:
"And I tell you, you are Peter, and on
this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against
it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth
will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."

Right: The window depicts Andrew, patron of this parish, holding his X-shaped
Cross. Tradition tells us that when Andrew was about to be crucified for being a
Christian, he did not wish to be crucified in the same manner as Jesus, so asked
to be crucified on an X-shaped cross. Below Andrew is an X-shaped cross formed by
two fish, recalling his profession as a fisherman. |
