Illustrated FURNITURE Glossary .


A general term from the French for closet or receptacle.

Almost any type of receptacle furniture may be termed a cabinet, though it generally implies drawers or shelves.

In current usage, a unit of case furniture with shelves and/or cabinets, or a wooden or metal housing to contain an object (i.e., television set, radio, etc.)

Cupboard:  a freestanding cupboard is considered a cabinet.
