The  The 8.5 ton 1504 original was installed  next to the entrance to the Palazzo della Signoria (now known as Palazzo Vecchio). 
In 1873, it was moved from the piazza to the Accademia Gallery to protect it from damage.  
A replica was placed in the
Palazzo della Signoria in 1910.      
David was given to Buffalo and the Historical Society as a gift by Andrew Langdon, Buffalo businessman and scholar.  In 1900, Mr. Langdon saw the bronze statue at the Paris Exposition, where it received a gold medal. It is one of only three bronze replicas made of the original statue.  He purchased the statue which was dedicated in Buffalo in 1903.
David is 18 feet tall.  It weighs 3000 pounds. It stands on a 9 foot granite pedestal which weighs 3,800 pounds.
