Chair ends. Approximately 4,000 seats originally; about 800 seats were removed in the late 1930s from the orchestra level (first floor seating) to increase leg room, lowering the audience capacity to about 3200. The chair ends that were removed - including the 3 here - were put into storage. The chair end on the right shows the black and gold paint that was added in the 1930s. The middle chair end shows the untouched original colors. The left chair end has been restored and will be the model for restored end chairs that will be installed - along with new wider seats - in the summer of 2002
