The beveled glass and the decorative wooden elements
not only ease the flatness of the right (south) facade, but they give a showcase,
jewel-like quality to this side.
In a time when houses were close together, and there was a much greater reliance
on getting natural light into the houses, this projecting window would have been
an important source of light into the main first floor space and into the stairwell
leading to the sleeping areas.
