18th Century Reproduction Furniture - Queen
Anne tea table
Kittinger Furniture Company, Inc.
In the 18th century, as social life became more and more under the control of women, special pieces were created for them:
- Desk and secretary, for writing social notes
- Card table, at which they indulged their passion for games of chance
- Tea table, around which they gathered for polite conversation and scurrilous gossip
The graceful lines of restrained American pieces are often lacking in English examples that are their Old World equivalents.Americans used mahogany as well as cherry and a few other local woods for simple elegant furniture, while English cabinetmakers often used oak.
