One of the few lionheads that was removed in the 1970's
As I recall the story from my father, one fell off or was dangerously close to falling off and the decision was made to remove them. There were 10 per side. One day after work, my father noticed the heads lined up on the sidewalk. After he learned they were to be demolished at the end of the day, he took 2 and went home. By the time he returned, the rest were gone. I've heard only 10 of the 40 survived, but I only know where four are. - Michael Reinhardt
