Tympanum painting and terra cotta surround.

"Deus unus et trinus": One God in Three Persons -- there is only One God, but in the inner life of this One God are Three Divine Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

In the semicircular area of the baldachino, we have another representation of the Trinity:

  • This time, the Father is portrayed as the all-wise (white hair) and concerned Creator of the world (orb and hand raised in blessing);
  • the Son is pictured in his glorified humanity ruling his kingdom (scepter); and
  • the Holy Spirit is indicated as the Spirit of love and sanctification over that same world.

The Angels are nearby to worship and serve the Triune God.

Small circular symbols appear on either side of the
pediment. They contain the first and last letter of the Greek alphabet "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the One who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty" (Rev. I:8).
