Allentown Local Preservation District
Buffalo, New York

A Designated Local Preservation District, approved March 21, 1978, Common Council Proceedings Item No. 192. The Allentown Historic Preservation District is also listed in the National Register of Historic Places Data Base, listed April 21, 1980.

All exterior construction, reconstruction, demolition, or redevelopment work to be performed on any structure or site within the Allentown Historic Preservation District must be undertaken in conformance with the Preservation Standards and Project Review Procedures, as defined in Chapter 337 of the Charter and Ordinance of the City of Buffalo, New York, as administered by the Buffalo Preservation Board.

Boundaries

This district, one of the largest preservation districts in the country, embraces all properties

• on the west side of Main Street from North to Goodell,
  
  
• those on both sides of Edward to Elmwood (including the Cyclorama on the south side of Edward),
  
  
• those on the west side of Elmwood to Trinity,
  
  
• those on both sides of Trinity to Tupper,
  
  
• those on both sides of Tupper to Virginia,
  
  
• those on both sides of Virginia to Cottage,
  
  
• those on both sides of Cottage to Hudson,
  
  
• those on the east side of Hudson to Plymouth,

• those on both sides of Plymouth to Jersey,

• those on the southeast side of Jersey to Porter,
  
  
• those on the south side of Porter to North,
  
  
• those on both sides of North (including Symphony Circle) to Delaware,
  
  
• those on the south side of North to Pearl and
  
  
• those on both sides of North back to Main St.

The Allentown District includes all the properties within those boundaries and covers much of one of the oldest 19th century residential neighborhood in the city.
